The "Scam" Test: 5 Things SA Shoppers Look For Before Buying

The "Scam" Test: 5 Things SA Shoppers Look For Before Buying

"Is This Legit?"

South Africans are smart. We've all heard horror stories of fake Instagram stores. Before a customer puts in their card details, they are unconsciously running a "Scam Check" on your site.

Does your new store pass?

1. The "About Us" Page

If this page is empty, you look like a ghost. Fix it: Put a photo of yourself or your team. Tell your story. "Founded in Durban by [Name]." Humans buy from humans.

2. A Local Phone Number

A generic contact@gmail.com isn't enough. Fix it: Add a WhatsApp chat button or a local 087/021 number. Even if you only answer WhatsApps, seeing the +27 code builds massive confidence.

3. The "Pty Ltd" Footer

Scroll to the bottom of Takealot or Superbalist. You see their registration number. Fix it: We add your CIPC Registration Number to your website footer on all our builds. It proves you are a registered legal entity, not a fly-by-night operator.

4. Real Policies

"Lorem Ipsum" text or generic US returns policies (mentioning "Dollars") are a red flag. Fix it: Be clear. "We accept returns within 7 days. We use The Courier Guy. We are based in Jo'burg."

Don't Look Like a Template

A generic store looks like a risk. A branded store looks like a business. We ensure every LaunchLlama store includes these "Trust Signals" by default.
